Bulletproof Picasso

Bulletproof Picasso

Train sound as vital as ever on Bulletproof Picasso, made 15 years after their blockbuster debut. Here, they dance with a variety of pop-rock styles like a quarterback at the prom. "Angel in Blue Jeans" is spaghetti western pop, its stomping beat abetted by Tex-Mex guitars and ... is that a whip cracking? "Cadillac Cadillac" has a vibrant, Bruno Mars–style '50s vivacity to it. "Give It All" is a sweeping ballad à la Coldplay, and "I'm Drinking Tonight" nods to Nashville, as befits a tune about whisky. Tapping hitmaking producers like Greg Kurstin (Sia), Butch Walker (Katy Perry), and Espionage (Beyoncé), the record features some of Train's most stylistically ambitious songwriting, with vocalist Pat Monahan channeling everyone from Paul McCartney to Wilson Pickett.
