Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 - Strauss: Burleske

Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 - Strauss: Burleske

Joseph Moog has made some very exciting recordings of flamboyant and agile piano playing. Here, though, he shows his serious side as he takes on Brahms’ mighty Piano Concerto No. 2. And very impressive it is too, as he puts his huge technique to good use riding the crests of this most symphonic of all piano concertos. It’s good to hear a young pianist in this work: his boundless energy really pays dividends. Richard Strauss’ Burleske, more obviously Moog fare, is dispatched with aplomb, while Nicholas Milton and his Deutsche Radio Philharmonie orchestra partner with evident sympathy.
