Black Sands Remixed (Bonus Track Version)

Black Sands Remixed (Bonus Track Version)

Rewarding fans for the long wait between 2006’s Days to Come and 2010’s Black Sands, Simon Green (a.k.a. Bonobo) delivers a 2012 remix of the latter that upstages the original with various electronic subgenre styles produced by an awesome array of studio wizards. The Essex, England–based Lapalux transforms the original album’s 1:18 introduction into an ambient orchestration. His “Finger on the Tape Remix” of “Prelude” plays for three extra minutes, extending the exotic string arrangements with watery ambience. Andreya Triana’s soulful and sultry harmonies get stripped down to one vocal track cooing over Banks’ acoustic reworking of “The Keeper.” With four different remixes, “Eyesdown” is the album's most popular chunk of sonic molding clay. Floating Points takes out the lo-fi vinyl hiss, crackles, and pops before shaping the tune into a mellow two-step affair, while ARP 101 turns it inside out and tacks on wonky analog synths and wobbling dubstep bass. Meanwhile, DELS throws in laid-back rhymes before Machine Drum runs it through the jungle with intense heart-attack beats.
