The body of Catriona, who had been missing for 19 years, was found holding a doll of Magnus' sister Agnes, who had died when she was 6. Inspector Perez brought Magnus to the station for questioning, but she would not talk. Sandy argues that since Catriona and Catherine's murderer have nothing in common, it is unlikely that Magnus killed them.

Captain Perez's old friend, reporter Jerry Markham, returned home, but the next day Markham was killed in an accident in which he was rear-ended by someone. Markham's broken computer had recorded a video opposing the gas company's new pipeline. Inspector Perez investigates Dalhousie, the landowner of the fish farm where the pipeline will run.

Officers Perez and Sandy visit Dalhousie and see a house with harassing graffiti saying "Get out. John, who was going to marry Evie, who runs the "Cove Preservation Society," was attacked by someone and left for dead. The paint at the two crime scenes, Jerry's and John's, and the paint on the Dalhousie house graffiti turned out to be identical.

The body of Anna Blake is found at the research center on Fair Island, Captain Perez's hometown. Jimmy suspects that Anna and Latimer may have had an affair. Jimmy witnesses Finlay, an employee of the institute, trying to dispose of a digital camera memory card. Inside were hundreds of photos of Anna. Finlay was stalking her.

[Season Finale] An explosion occurs in the hut and Latimer comes out from inside. Latimer has scars from a beating and passes away without telling what happened. Ana's computer contained a draft of an email to the dean of the university where Latimer had attended. Ana wanted to accuse Latimer of falsifying survey data.

Leanne is on the night ferry to Lerwick, Shetland, when she witnesses an argument between a middle-aged man and a young man named Leanne. The next morning, Robbie is nowhere to be seen and he is trapped somewhere narrow and dark, looking for help. Then, a young boy named Callum puts a colorful pill he picked up on the beach, MDMA, in his mouth.

Robbie's body is found at a recycling plant, but the investigative team is told not to touch the body. Leanne identifies and contacts Michael Maguire, the man responsible for her troubles with Robbie, but just then someone vandalizes Freya's workshop. Michael realizes that the culprit is Leanne, and he questions her.

Leanne is shot and seriously injured by someone. Michael is also killed by an unidentified man. Perez learns that Michael was in the witness protection program and identifies the man who took his testimony, Arthur McCall. When Perez interrogates McCall, who denies killing Michael, he tells him,"I didn't kill him, go back to your island.

Michael left a mysterious message on his partner's answering machine saying "Burn" and "Level 9". McIntosh, investigating with National Police Officer Boyd, learns that "Level 9" is a closed nightclub. Perez goes to pick up McIntosh at the airport, but she is not on board. Boyd rushes to "Level 9" and finds McIntosh's shoes and cell phone there.

McIntosh was protected. On Level 9, there had been an assault in which a 19-year-old woman was raped 10 years earlier. The man accompanying her at the time was Michael. The perpetrator was the son of Phyllis Brennan, a senior prosecutor. He believes that Phyllis is offering favors in return for McCall covering up the incident.

[Season Finale] Perez questioned Phyllis about the facts. Phyllis denies it, but Perez is convinced that McCall's lawyer, Sarwar, is involved. Another question: who leaked Michael's location? Perez suspects Michael's protection program officer, Asha, but then an unexpected person emerges.
