The Russian “audio-visual terror” duo IC3PEAK have faced government censorship in response to their politically charged electronic music. • Producer Nikolai Kostylev and singer Anastasiya Kreslina formed IC3PEAK (pronounced “ice peak”) in the mid-2010s. The Moscow-based electronic duo that performs in Russian and English. • In 2016, IC3SPEAK confronted Russia’s sanctions against members of the LGBTQ community by castding queer-identifying dancers from Russia and Brazil in their “Go with the Flow” music video. • The duo’s 2018 music video for “Death No More” features a series of controversial images, including Kostylev and Kreslina eating raw meat at Lenin’s tomb. • In December 2018, following the release of the “Death No More” clip, IC3PEAK were detained while traveling to a concert in Novosibirsk, Siberia. Although never charged with a crime, the duo missed their gig. More than half the dates of a tour that year were canceled by officials. • IC3SPEAK linked with City Morgue rapper ZillaKami for 2020’s “TRRST.” The self-released song about a wrongfully accused terrorist blended Russian and English and racked up more than 30 million streams.
