Composer, musician and singer Amrit Ramnath’s debut at the helm of a movie soundtrack has the star artfully weaving nostalgia with modern experimental efforts. Varshangalkku Shesham is a Malayalam period drama set in the 1970s and ’80s, so it’s apt that the darling of India’s independent music scene evokes a warm reflective ambience with tracks like the sitar-driven “Sangamam” and tender “Karakaana”. Ramnath’s solo releases often involve orchestral string ventures and he channels this in “Jeevithagaadhakale” with legendary vocalist K.S. Chithra, while Hesham Abdul Wahab leads the pacey “Njaanaalunna”.
