Make Way for Love

On Make Way for Love, Marlon Williams pulls back the curtain. The New Zealander’s personal second LP was written immediately after—and about—a broken relationship. Vastly expanding his alt-country sound, “What’s Chasing You” is warm and sentimental, “Party Boy” is kind of fun…for a spiteful, rockabilly-inspired murder ballad, and the piano-led “Love Is a Terrible Thing” relishes in icy solitude. And in a surreal moment of art imitating life, the gorgeous, desolate duet “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore” features songwriter and ex-partner Aldous Harding—their relationship being the very catalyst for the album.
