Australian alt-rock darlings Birds of Tokyo zoom into an apocalyptic future on their fifth album, BRACE. Fuelled by bleak, sci-fi-tinged lyrics rife with warnings about excessive power ("Gods"), critiques of crumbling social mores ("Catastrophe") and calls to overthrow oppressive states ("Empire"), Birds of Tokyo paint a grim picture, churning out some of the gnarliest music they’ve made. Jagged electric guitars mesh with electronic programming as slippery as liquid mercury, making for a part-industrial, part-glam opus that rides on the cutting edge.
