Note from the Author

Dear Readers,

How many of you know when I started my career I completely intended to be a historical romance author? I honestly thought that was all I would ever write. I even went to college to study history. I loved the creating worlds within the set rules of past societies.

My goal with historicals was to keep the characters realistic to the time they lived, within the world they lived. I'll be honest, for this reason, Emerald Knight isn't your typical modern romance. I didn't want it to be. These people did not live in our world.

I also wanted the challenge of dealing with a couple who had no choice in their futures. They were betrothed at birth before they even knew what marriage was. This book spans the course of decades and deals with marital issues arising from an arranged political marriage between two (practically) strangers that have to come to love each other, and may be sensitive to some readers.

I know many of you love a variety of books, and I hope you give it a try. The writing style is close to the award winning Maiden and the Monster as they were originally written in the same time period. The book first published in 2005.

Happy Reading!

Michelle

Wonderful Story

Michelle M. Pillow’s “Emerald Knight” is one of the authors earlier books. This is a beautiful love story that spans years, well meaning interfering relatives and many tribulations.

This is the story of a political alliance made with the birth of Lady Ginevra betrothed as an infant to Lord Wolfram, second son to the Count of Whetshire who is eight years her senior. I loved the interactions between Gin and Wolf as children.

I struggled with the parts of the story such as Wolfe being late For his own wedding because he was busy dallying with the maid and then rather spending his wedding night consummating his marriage, again he’s with a maid. But bear in mind he wasn’t interested in getting married anyway, he was doing his duty or was he?

I found the characters well developed and while I struggled with Wolfe in the beginning in the end he was the hero I expected. Gin was a woman of incredible strength and one to be admired. The problem between them was always miscommunication or lack of which led to frustrations and misunderstandings. Once these two actually opened up about their feelings and emotions, realizing they do love one another after all this beautiful love story unfolds.

The writing was well done though I found a a few places where the wrong word was used or misspelled I wasn’t distracted from the story. There was an instance or two where I felt a modern phrase was used but again this is one of the authors first books. That being said, I still loved the book! I look forward to reading more of the authors medical stories.

Her research was well done and I think her characterizations were accurate for the time period. I laughed, I cried and felt the emotions that ran through the story. As a sidenote, I’ve read many of her latest books and enjoy her writing style and stories.

Thank you so much Ms. Pillow for the beautiful love story. I look forward to reading more of your medieval books.

Arranged marriages and HEA

Gin and Wolfe are betrothed when she is just a baby. When they finally marry, their path to happiness is riddled with all kinds of pitfalls. It was a great story to find out how they overcame those.

Historical romance!

Emerald Knight is a standalone novel by Michelle M. Pillow.

This is a Medieval Historical Romance. I normally do not read historical romances, but I have been trying to expand my likes. So I gave this a go.

Ginevra and Wolfram was betrothed with each other for political reasons. The Earl of Whetshire and Baron Southaven wanted this joining.

Wolfram is much older than Ginevra, so he did not really see her much rather than a nuisance. Throughout their lives, their interactions were limited and with Wolfram not taking their engagement and later on marriage seriously, Ginevra was not expecting much from her husband.

This was a very lengthy book with a lot of details. The story is a slow burn with how the story progresses. This was different from what I normally read and it took me a minute to understand the language. Overall, I think that this was a very interesting book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
