United Crushers

Poliça’s unconventional lineup of vocals, bass, and two drum kits pushes their cool synth-pop into unique territory. Lead singer Channy Leaneagh uses strange effects to couch her intimate lyrics, and Ryan Olson treats the Minneapolis band’s live instrumentation as source material for his moody electronic production. On “Summer Please,” Leaneagh pitches her voice down to a mournful wail, while her hurt croon turns “Lately” into a warped ballad. But there’s lightness, too, with both “Someway” and “Lime Habit” lending a breezier pop spirit.
