About Adam Lambert

Combining arena-rock grandeur with a keen appreciation for pop and a powerful voice, Adam Lambert is one of the biggest stars to have emerged from American Idol. Born in Indianapolis in 1982, Lambert moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating from high school. His big break occurred when he auditioned for the eighth season of Idol, where his take on Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” thrilled the judges. After lighting up the Idol stage with innovative reinventions of pop gems, Lambert finished second—although he landed on the cover of Rolling Stone once the season ended. His coming-out story helped make him an icon among LGBTQ listeners, and his 2009 major-label debut, For Your Entertainment, which blended glam and funk with 21st-century synth-pop, cemented that status. In 2011 Lambert came full circle from his Idol audition, joining Queen during a performance at MTV’s EMAs and setting the stage for his eventual role as replacement for the late Freddie Mercury. In the 2010s and 2020s, he balanced touring as part of Queen + Adam Lambert with his own solo material; singles like “Ghost Town” and “Another Lonely Night” showcased his savvy with modern pop, and his 2012 album Trespassing was the first album by an openly gay artist to top the Billboard 200. Lambert is one of pop’s most delightfully unpredictable stars, a flamboyant rocker who feels equally at home at a dance club or on an arena stage.
