Australian electronic band The Avalanches have released two Top 10 albums and produced multiple hit remixes for such artists as Belle & Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand, and The Chemical Brothers. ∙ In 1998, they covered “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” for the Australian tribute album To Hal and Bacharach, honoring famed songwriting duo Burt Bacharach & Hal David. ∙ Their debut full-length LP, 2000’s Since I Left You, was certified Platinum in Australia and hit the Top 10 in the UK, Ireland, and the US. ∙ They were nominated for nine honors at the 2001 ARIA Music Awards, winning four: Breakthrough Artist – Album, Best Dance Release, Best New Artist – Single, and Producer of the Year. ∙ English author Nick Hornby (High Fidelity) chose the band’s hit single “Frontier Psychiatrist” as the subject for an essay in his 2002 book, 31 Songs. ∙ Wildflower, their 2016 sophomore LP, hit No. 1 in Australia on the strength of its Top 40 radio hit, “Frankie Sinatra,” featuring rappers Danny Brown and MF Doom. ∙ Their 2020 LP, We Will Always Love You, boasts such collaborations as “Interstellar Love” (featuring Leon Bridges) and the title track (with Blood Orange).
