If there's such a thing as a professional punk group, Broadheds fit the bill. Featuring Eulogies frontman Peter Walker, Beck's touring bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Kooks drummer Denny Weston Jr., and Fitz & The Tantrums saxophonist James King, Broadheds turn in an entire album of punk-fueled aggression. It's tempered into no wave by King's errant sax lines; sometimes it's even slowed down for introspection and a barrage of lyrical smarts. "Tomorrow I Might Feel the Same" isn't the work of an angry teen, and the nearly pretty "Today" aches like an experienced person's heart (don't dare call them old!). "Young Love," though, still retains the eye of the tiger, while "Speeding Away" is aptly named. A glimpse of reggae pops up for "At Least I Have Something," "Push Shove," and "I'm Angry." But nothing beats the fiery opener, "Nothing That I Care About," which deliberately includes the count-off to capture the propulsion of a veteran group defying the odds.
