Country music provided a significant, if nearly subliminal, ingredient in golden age reggae, and few make the connection clearer than this understated blue-eyed soul stirrer from the American South. Following some folkier releases, Nichols circles back to his country-dub roots with this resequenced and remastered 2010 release. Accompanied by a crack reggae crew and with dub demon Adrian Sherwood at the controls, Nichols applies his buttery twang to future C&R classics like “To Be Rich (Should Be A Crime)” and “Lonely King Of The Country,” fleshing out roots riddims with gentle acoustic strumming.
