Bambi Kino

Bambi Kino

Here’s a great novelty for Beatles fans and an engaging musical project for everyone. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first appearance in Hamburg, Germany, the supergroup Bambi Kino worked up a convincing repertoire of what the Beatles played at the Indri Club that first night and then performed it there on the appropriate date. Named after the place where the Fab Four stayed during their first tour of duty in Germany, Bambi Kino is as authentic as you’re likely to get without pulling out a copy of the poorly recorded Beatles live album from the Star Club in 1962. Doug Gillard of Guided By Voices, Mark Rozzo of Maplewood, Eric Papparazi of Cat Power and Ira Elliot of Nada Surf work through Arthur Alexander’s “Soldier Of Love,” Chuck Berry’s “I’m Talking About You,” Buddy Holly’s “Crying Waiting Hoping,” and Johnny Kidd’s “Shakin’ All Over” with convincing sincerity and the necessary firepower.
