These Dutch prog rockers followed the breakout success of their second LP by intensifying their vision and expanding their scope on a double album. All the elements brewing in their previous outings are still present—jazz rock ("Round Goes the Gossip"), acoustic instrumental balladry ("Love Remembered"), and Jan Akkerman's wild-eyed guitar heroics ("Anonymous II")—but with even greater sophistication. Add a Renaissance-style lute-and-recorder interlude ("Elspeth of Nottingham") and the triumphantly sunny guitar feature "Sylvia" (the band's second-biggest hit ever), and you've got the makings for one of the finest artifacts from prog rock's glory days.
