One of the most successful disco labels ever, Salsoul started in 1974. After a few years dealing with mostly Latin artists, it jumped headfirst into the dance craze that was sweeping the nation, fueled by nose candy and hi-hats. Salsoul would eventually release more than 300 12-inch singles by acts like Double Exposure, Loleatta Holloway, Skyy, Instant Funk, and many others before shutting down in 1985. (It relaunched just seven years later during a resurgence due mainly to rappers and house DJs sampling the label's massive discography). This holiday collection was first released in 1976 and features the crackshot house band (which included a full orchestra and members of Gamble and Huff's MFSB crew) putting their unique spin on many Yuletide favorites. Disco may be long dead, but this album still sounds great decades later. Don't miss the jazzy "Merry Christmas All," the Love Unlimited-esque "You're All I Want for Christmas," and the melodramatic "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."
