Live 1973

Live 1973

Months before his September 1973 death, Parsons, Emmylou Harris, and his band the Fallen Angels dropped in at Long Island rock station WLIR for an in-studio concert broadcast. This posthumous album captures the results. Grittier than Parsons' official albums, Live 1973 delivers the emotion and spark of his music brilliantly. The material spans much of his career, including a healthy amount of G.P. songs and an incandescent duet with Harris on "Love Hurts." That his sound came from all over - and not just the honky-tonk country of his solo records - is made clear by a medley of '50s rock classics including Larry Williams' "Bony Maronie" along with two Chuck Berry numbers, "Almost Grown" and "Forty (Thirty) Days." A must-listen for Parsons cultists and even casual fans who hunger for more of Parsons music.
