About Kaela Kimura

J-pop singer and former model Kaela Kimura spent three years hosting the morning show Saku Saku, and her first single, “Level 42,” debuted on the program in 2004. ∙ Every episode of the flight-attendant drama Attention Please—on which she once guest-starred as a passenger—ends with her cover of Roy Orbison’s iconic “Oh, Pretty Woman.” ∙ When ’70s glam-rockers Sadistic Mika Band reunited for their 2006 album, Narkissos, they recruited her as the new lead vocalist and dubbed themselves Sadistic Mikaela Band. ∙ Her buzz-worthy performance of “Butterfly” on the 2009 Kōhaku Uta Gassen New Year’s Eve special helped make the romantic ballad the top-selling song on iTunes the following year. ∙ The 2010 single “Ring a Ding Dong” became her first No. 1 hit, thanks to its appearance in a massive telecom ad campaign that also featured Kimura onscreen. ∙ Four of her tracks have landed in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Japan Hot 100 chart, including “Mamireru,” which was the theme song for the detective show Toshi Densetsu no Onna. ∙ In 2013, she launched her own record label, ELA, becoming both the first woman and the youngest person to debut an imprint with Victor Entertainment.
