Tackling The Beatles’ catalog is no easy task. But Aussie jazz singer Katie Noonan’s reinvention of these Lennon/McCartney evergreens feels completely natural. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have heavyweights like bassist Ron Carter, sax man Joe Lovano, and guitarist John Scofield on her team. Still, with her shimmering take on the title tune and her deftly darting, bop-informed approach to “Eleanor Rigby,” it’s Noonan’s interpretive powers that really put this one over.
