Kedr Livanskiy, a Moscow native who came of age during Russia’s ‘90s cultural upheaval, was drawn early on to the music of electronic pioneers like Inga Copeland, DJ Rashad, Boards of Canada and Death Grips. Their experimentalism inspired her to pack her music with dense polyphonic layers—muffled vocals (sung in both English and Russian) and analogue synths, which shimmer with a metallic vibrancy across the album. While her 2016 EP (January Sun) held similar textured ambience, her debut full-length Ariadna is a notably brighter affair.
