About Anita Carter

The youngest daughter of Mother Maybelle Carter of the legendary Carter Family, Anita Carter began performing with the family in 1939 alongside her sisters, Helen and June. When the original Carter Family retired in 1943, she sang and played stand-up bass or rhythm guitar in the family group, Mother Maybelle And The Carter Sisters, who from 1950 on, were regulars on the Grand Ole Opry. She also made a number of solo recordings, and in 1951 she recorded the Top 5 country hits, "Bluebird Island" and "Down The Trail Of Aching Hearts" with Hank Snow. She later recorded "I Got You," a hit duet with Waylon Jennings, and made a guest appearance on the second volume of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN.
