The Suspect

Dr Joe O'Loughlin is a psychologist with a successful private practice and a published book to his name. He also has a loving wife and a young daughter, but a recent life-changing medical diagnosis has thrown him off-balance, and Joe is feeling reckless. DI Vince Ruiz is jaded after years of solving the kind of crimes that don't make the headlines. When a young woman is found murdered, the unusual manner of her death prompts Ruiz's new partner, DS Riya Devi, to suggest asking Joe for a professional opinion. They need to know what kind of person could commit a crime such as this. Joe is shocked by the sight of the young woman's body - is he just shaken by the brutality of the killing, or is there something he's not telling the police?

Joe's wife Julianne desperately wants him to focus on his health, but he just can't get the case of the murdered woman out of his head. He's convinced there's something sinister at play, and his paranoia leads him to suspect that one of his patients may know something about the murder. Meanwhile, Ruiz and Devi are hunting for new evidence in their case when a surprising breakthrough turns the spotlight back onto Dr O'Loughlin. Joe has his own theory about who might have murdered the young woman, but the police are not convinced. When Joe's marriage is hit by a bombshell, the line between innocence and guilt starts to seem irrevocably blurred.

The rift between Joe and his wife Julianne sees him at his lowest ebb, but he is still determined to untangle the web he's caught up in. Joe believes that there's a pattern to be found amongst all the coincidences and a breakthrough sets him on a new path of investigation: if the police won't look for the truth, then he will. DI Ruiz and DS Devi are newly-determined to get justice for Catherine, but their investigation has hit a roadblock. Convinced that Joe is somehow linked to Catherine's murder, they must watch and wait to see where he leads them. As Joe probes deeper into the past to try and make sense of the present, he unearths details which point to a culprit uncomfortably close to home.

Joe is knocked sideways when an old grudge rears its head. With the net closing in, he flees to his Dad's house for sanctuary. Trying to plan his next move, Joe is blindsided by a discovery. For DI Ruiz and DS Devi, the case now looks crystal clear and they step up their efforts to arrest those responsible. But Ruiz has a nagging doubt that he is missing something. With the help of those still loyal to him, Joe must dig deep into his own past to understand what is happening in the present.

Having finally uncovered the truth, Joe now faces the challenge of convincing those around him before it's too late. DI Ruiz takes a calculated risk - will it pay off, or backfire horribly? At the moment Joe thinks he is finally out of the woods, the stakes suddenly become life or death. Can Joe's skills as a psychologist get him out of trouble one more time?
