____________

A runaway vehicle crashes to a halt, but the man in the driving seat was murdered a week earlier.

A bonfire blazes, and in the flames lies the next victim.

It's clear a serial killer is running amok in the capital, playing games with the police. And the death toll is rising fast.

But this is no ordinary killer, and every new victim is intended as a message to just one woman - psychologist Freida Klein.

And the message is very simple.

You're next. . .

Frieda Klein's duel with her dark nemesis is finally coming to an end, but only one can make it out alive.

Outstanding! My favourite book series!

I have been reading Nicci French books for about 18 years and I started the Frieda Klein series roughly 10 years ago. There are 8 books in this series and each one I’ve read it has always been like meeting up with an old friend. Frieda is so real to me and I have to say now that I have finished the final instalment, I am left feeling a little bereft. In my head, I know that it was time to finish the series, but in my heart, I didn’t want to let go.

Whilst each book has its own story, we have followed one particular storyline throughout the series. Dean Reeve has hurt and killed so many people associated with Frieda, almost teasing her each time by saying ‘I’m coming for you, just not yet.’ As Day of the Dead is the last book, it is clear that Dean will return and now he is ready for his final showdown with Frieda.

Dean is good at hiding in plain sight, but Frieda is extremely clever and can often be one step ahead, so who will win this big cat and mouse chase?

We also see the return of some other much-loved characters in this book alongside a new character Lola. Naïve and needy, Lola is unfortunate enough to get involved in Frieda’s ongoing saga. However, the two seem to form a bit of a bond and I like how Frieda almost takes on a mothering role, although she’d never admit to it.

Frieda has to be the most stubborn character that I have ever come across in a book, but she is also extremely kind, caring and loyal. The woman is willing to sacrifice herself to save others from Dean’s murderous ways and I know she’d do anything for her close friends and family. If I could pick a book character to join me for dinner, Frieda would be at the head of the table!

As with all Nicci French books, this one is extremely well written and cleverly plotted. Nicci and Sean must be so in tune with each other to be able to write such a masterpiece together. It is perfectly paced, with plenty happening to hold your interest. Part of me didn’t want to rush reading it as I knew I’d be sad when it was over, but the other part of me wanted to race through the pages to find out what would happen!

This book is full of characters I will never forget, and I did have a few tears at the end, knowing I wouldn’t meet them again unless I re-read the series. I have to say I am not one to re-read books, but I can see myself reading these again one day.

Thank you so much to Nicci and Sean for writing yet another incredible book, your work has been a huge part of my life and has contributed to my love for reading. Now that I am a book blogger, I am glad I can share my thoughts with you both and shout about your books to anyone who will listen!

Amazing!

I have loved this series so much. Frieda Klein is such a lovable character. I am so sad it has all come to an end. I wish there were more, enough books of this to keep me reading forever lol.

Amazing Frieda Klein.

I have read the whole series of the Freida Klein saga and have loved every minute of the journey with her. What an amazing character! My only question is- when is the TV series going to be made? Surely we can look forward to that happening!
