One of the Greats
I don't write a lot of reviews and it has been many years since I read it, but it couldn't bear to see such a great book without a recommendation. Graves was one of the writers who served in the trenches of World War I and wrote so eloquently about it after. They were known collectively as the war poets. Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfried Owen et al. It's a novel about a way of life before the loss of innocence, about the war itself and it's aftermath. It's a must read if you'd like to understand this incredibly important phase of English history.
