About Jeff Lynne's ELO

Formerly known as Electric Light Orchestra -- an influential pop/rock group who took their cues from the Beatles -- their name was eventually changed to Jeff Lynne's ELO, primarily to differentiate from tribute acts and offshoots that were touring under similar names. Since their formation in the '70s, the group underwent multiple lineup changes, with members staying with the band for varying amounts of time. Drummer Bev Bevan, for example, played alongside Lynne for a number of years before leaving, eventually forming his own iteration of the band: Electric Light Orchestra, Part II. The name Jeff Lynne's ELO was coined in 2014 for a performance in Hyde Park, but it was retained for releases and tours in the following years. In 2015, they issued a studio album, Alone in the Universe -- the debut record to feature their new name on the cover -- which consisted of their first original material since 2001's Zoom. With fresh songs at their disposal, the band went on tour, including dates in America, festival appearances, and a U.K. show at Wembley that was recorded for their 2017 live album Wembley or Bust. Lynne quickly returned with a new studio album called From Out of Nowhere in November 2019. ~ Liam Martin
