About Jarryd James

Jarryd James oozes sensitivity in all he does, starting with his feathery vocal delivery. Born Jarryd James Klapper in Brisbane in 1984, the singer/songwriter debuted with 2015’s “Do You Remember”, a sensual indie-R&B ballad that won the ARIA Award for Best Pop Release. Like his kindred spirit Chet Faker, James applies a delicate touch to beat-driven confessionals that allows ample room for emotional revelations. Produced by Joel Little (Lorde, Broods), his 2015 album Thirty One got especially intimate on the Julia Stone duet “Regardless.” Recorded in multiple countries and steeped in moody, twitchy electronics, 2021’s P.M. tapped seasoned hip-hop producers like Clams Casino, FrancisGotHeat, and M-Phazes to deepen the songs’ after-hours vibes. The closing “Overdue” even enlists Wisconsin rapper Trapo for a commanding feature, positioning James as a singer whose low-key presence translates fluidly across stylistic settings.
