Jarryd James oozes sensitivity in all he does, starting with his feathery vocal delivery. Produced by Joel Little (Lorde, Broods), his 2015 album Thirty One got especially intimate on the Julia Stone duet “Regardless.” Recorded in multiple countries and steeped in moody, twitchy electronics, 2021’s P.M. tapped seasoned hip-hop producers like Clams Casino, FrancisGotHeat, and M-Phazes to deepen the songs’ after-hours vibes. The closing “Overdue” even enlists Wisconsin rapper Trapo for a commanding feature, positioning James as a singer whose low-key presence translates fluidly across stylistic settings.
