About Fatboy Slim

Fatboy Slim is one of the most influential DJ/producers of all time. His litany of ’90s and ’00s hits opened the door for electronic music as a mainstream phenomenon. • Norman Cook took violin lessons as a kid and got his first taste of musical success as a bassist for the hitmaking UK jangle-pop band The Housemartins in the late ’80s. • He turned to acid house following the dissolution of The Housemartins in 1988 and debuted as Fatboy Slim in 1996. • Fatboy Slim’s 1998 sophomore album, You've Come a Long Way, Baby, topped the UK charts and yielded four Top 10 hits in that country, including the No. 1 smash “Praise You.” • His signature approach—mixing funky loops and vocal edits with banging hip-hop drums, brassy horns, and acid synths—made him a leader of the Big Beat movement. • Fatboy Slim’s humor comes across in iconic music videos like “Praise You” and “Weapon of Choice.” The latter, directed by Spike Jonze and starring a dancing Christopher Walken, won a Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 2001. • In addition to his one Grammy win and six nominations, Fatboy Slim has earned two Brit Awards and nine MTV VMAs. The lover of aliases holds the Guinness World Record for most Top 40 hits under different names.
