About Charles Lloyd

Charles Lloyd is a jazz saxophonist, flutist, and composer. His signature warm, resonant tone and improvisational acumen are integrated into jazz, folk, rock, and non-Western styles that nearly made him a pop star with 1965's Of Course, Of Course, 1966's Love In (1966), and 1970's In the Soviet Union, leading to work with the Beach Boys. During the '80s, he recorded with pianist Michel Petrucciani, and after signing with ECM, he released the acclaimed outings The Call (1993), Canto (1997), and Lift Every Voice (2001). Moving to Blue Note, he formed the Marvels, whose releases include 2018's Vanished Gardens featuring Lucinda Williams. In 2021, Lloyd issued 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from the Lobero) and the Marvels' Tone Poem. In 2022, Lloyd began his Trilogy of Trios with Chapel, followed by Ocean, and Sacred Thread. He then assembled an all-star quartet for 2024's The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow.
