The Places Between: The Best of Doves

The Places Between: The Best of Doves

It seems perfectly fitting that Manchester, England’s Doves would open for arena favorites such as U2, Coldplay and Oasis. Their Brit-pop, if it can be termed that, sounds perfectly compatible with the echoed grandiosity of the headliners. While they have only experienced limited success in the U.S., it isn’t from a lack of affable hooks or pleasing, deep-and-wide song dynamics. This “Best Of” collection features many of the tunes that their fans have come to expect. “There Goes the Fear”, “Black and White Town” and “Kingdom of Rust” are songs necessary for anyone to understand the band’s appeal. However, the inclusion of the new single “Andalucia” is a welcome addition to the catalog. Singer-bassist Jimi Goodwin, guitarist Jez Williams and drummer Andy Williams create a sound far beyond that of your average rock trio.
