About Sir Malcolm Arnold
Malcolm Arnold (1921-2006) was a British composer who wrote music in an accessibly tonal and tuneful style, which set him at odds with most of the avant-garde set of the mid-20th century. Arnold is best known for his prolific work in film, where he produced over 80 scores, such as The Bridge on the River Kwai and David Copperfield, while simultaneously working on many other compositions. His vast output includes nine symphonies, twenty concertos, five ballets, and numerous shorter pieces of all varieties. Arnold was rewarded for his distinguished service to British music with a knighthood in 1993.
