About Marie Bryant

b. 1919, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. 23 May 1978, Los Angeles, California, USA. A good singer, with a pleasing vocal sound and stage presence, Bryant worked with several noted jazz artists in New York in the 40s. She appeared on record in 1946 in a band that included Peanuts Hucko and Bernie Leighton and, the same year, with Al Casey. In 1952, she recorded in London accompanied by the Mike McKenzie Quartet, which included Humphrey Lyttelton. Bryant is doubtless best remembered by jazz fans for her 1944 film appearance in the Norman Granz -Gjon Mili classic, Jammin’ The Blues.
