The personal and the political swirl together on this breathlessly inventive full debut from U.K. MC Rocky Takalobigashi. For starters, very few hip hop albums feature fashion designer Vivienne Westwood soliloquising about climate change (“Intellectuals Unite”) nestled next to skittering confessionals about young fatherhood (“The Kids”). But cohesion comes via Righteous’ savage punchlines (“I swear some of these mandem are thick as b*tches' eyebrows,” he cackles on “I Turn Up”), and dazzling flow.
