Essential Albums
- This 1997 album marked a creative rebirth for Acadian rocker Zachary Richard, who'd been singing in English and promoted as The Cajun Mick Jagger. Following his artistic muse, he tones down the rock sound and sings exclusively in French. There are gorgeous, slow-paced songs like "Marjolaine," atmospheric production with acoustic guitars and muted keyboards on "Petit Codiac," and emotive vocals everywhere, with a traditionally styled French waltz, "Travailler C'est Trop Dur," for the finale. Only "Johnny Danser" harks back to his early, rocking sound.

About Zachary Richard
Richard's influences are more eclectic than most Cajun performers, so it's no surprise his music mates the intensity of the blues, the hard-driving sound and energy of rock, and the party feel of traditional Cajun and zydeco music. The singer/songwriter has been recording and performing from the 1970s to the 2000s.
