Soulwax

The throbbing brainchild of Belgian brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, Soulwax have been infusing dance music with punkish grit since the ‘90s, starting out as quirky rockers and growing into master remixers and architects of electroclash and pop mash-ups. Hailing from Ghent, Belgium, Soulwax debuted in 1996 with Leave the Story Untold, before perfecting their blend of alt-rock and post-hardcore two years later on Much Against Everyone's Advice. However, a voracious dance-music obsession was brewing in tandem, and by 2000, the Dewaele Brothers had launched a popular show called Hang The DJ on Belgian National Radio, as well as parallel production project 2manydjs. The 2002 mix As Heard On Radio Soulwax, Pt. 2 became a cult hit due to its irreverent mash-up mayhem, propelling the Dewaeles into the electroclash and dance-punk sounds of 2004's Any Minute Now. Subsequent remix album Nite Versions completed Soulwax's metamorphosis into playful, adventurous dance wizards, followed by a string of blockbuster remixes for the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, and Gorillaz. The pair launched the Radio Soulwax app in 2011 and electronic label DEEWEE in 2015, allowing them to showcase dozens of live DJ mixes that became the basis for their booming 2017 comeback LP, FROM DEEWEE, which was recorded in one take.
