New York City indie quartet Public Access T.V. make hooky, swaggering power pop. The band was formed by lead singer/guitarist John Eatherly, who dropped out of high school to join Nashville indie rockers Be Your Own Pet before moving to N.Y.C. to work as a studio and touring musician. Eventually inspired to start his own band, he assembled lead guitarist Xan Aird, bass player Max Peebles, and drummer Pete Star, and the four-piece uploaded its first song, "Monaco," to a music-sharing site in January 2014. The new wavy tune was quickly discovered by the music press, including the U.K.'s legendary NME, which declared them "New York's Hottest New Band." The group's first live show took place in New York later that month and sold out. A limited, vinyl-only EP titled Rebounder was issued that summer on Gudrun Records. They were touring the U.S. East Coast and the U.K. before the end of the year, and soon found themselves playing in support of acts like Weezer and Gang of Four. In March of 2015, while on the road, the bandmembers learned that their rehearsal, recording, and living space in Manhattan had been destroyed in a gas explosion that was making news around the world. With nowhere to go, they loaded up their schedule with everything from house shows to European music festivals for a summer that included opening for the Strokes at Hyde Park. Amid touring, they released their official debut EP, Public Access, with Terrible Records. In anticipation of their first full-length album, the '60s garage-evoking lead single "Patti Peru" appeared that September. Further accolades arrived in early 2016 when Entertainment Weekly named Public Access T.V. one of the 30 best acts at that year's South by Southwest music festival. Recorded in Oxfordshire, England, their debut LP, Never Enough, arrived in September 2016 via Cinematic Music Group. It made NME’s 50 Best Albums of 2016 list and led to more touring in Europe and North America, including U.S. dates with the Pixies in the first half of 2017. Later that year, they headed to the studio with producer Patrick Wimberly (Solange, Wet) to record the follow-up. Delivering a slightly more refined set of sashaying hooks, Street Safari saw release in February 2018, also on Cinematic. ~ Marcy Donelson
