O Que Você Quer Saber de Verdade

O Que Você Quer Saber de Verdade

Marisa Monte’s O Que Você Quer Saber de Verdade (“What You Really Want to Know”) is the Brazilian singer’s first release since 2006. O Que Você’s opening title cut quickly gives the listener a taste of what follows: it features Monte’s lovely voice wrapped in a fine arrangement. The rock ballad “Depois” is warmed up by Bernie Worrell’s Hammond organ, while “Amar Alguem” is a spare wonder colored by tender tones on piano and acoustic guitar. Monte looks to Brazil’s southern neighbor on “Lecinho Querido,” where her moving performance is enhanced by the guest appearance of the Argentinean group Café de Los Maestros. On “Aquela Velha Cancao,” vocals are backed by strings, touches of ukulele, and an easygoing beat. Composer Arnaldo Antunes joins Monte on the mic for the irresistible “Hoje Eu Não Saio, Não,” while “Seja Feliz” is animated by a speedy bass line from Dadi (who also serves as the album’s producer). The well-known film composer and producer Gustavo Santaolalla contributes several instrumental parts on the gorgeous closer, “Bem Aqui.”
