Great Collection but ebook could be better

Good material but not the best ebook. The material seems to be organized chronologically (sort of) combining paintings, photography, decorative arts, film, etc. It makes it a little bit confusing and choppy. The iBooks Author platform does not make the best ebook experience yet. I would expect a better design from MoMA - the type of the captions in the introduction is too similar to the text; the pictures in the contents pages of each chapter are haphazard; etc.

The MoMA Abstract Expressionists app is brilliant. Unfortunately, this ebook (again, though it has fantastic material) could be better.

    The Future of Museum Publications

I hosted a panel discussion recently titled "Looking to the Future" and addressed the future of museum publications that move beyond static PDF formats to interactive books created with iBooks Author. I'm not surprised to see MoMa leading the way with this initiative, but I see the potential for this new medium to impact the museum field in a big way. I'm also excited about the possibility of using iBooks Author to create interactive family guides and teacher resource guides that can be viewed on iPhones and iPads. When considering the range of formats that can be developed in the field of museum education and scholarly publications, i anticipate that museum publications will begin to include content that go beyond the use of audio and video files to include more of the interactive widgets that allow for interactive images and slideshows, keynote presentations and animations, 3D content, and the import of html5 generated content using third party apps like Hype by Tumult. This is a every exciting time!
