About Jooks

Jooks is a Danish rapper who made his solo album debut in 2009, around the same time he topped the charts with the lead single "Hun Vil Ha' en Rapper." Born Johan Forsby, he began his recording career as a member of the group Rent Mel (aka Rent Mel I Posen). Comprised of Jooks, Atilla, Mundi, Tegnedrengen, Hennesey, and Møller, Rent Mel made their album debut in 1999 with Langt Om Længe. Follow-up efforts include the album Ingen Stress (2004) on Cope Records. Jooks established himself as a solo artist with guest appearances on Niarn's Glenn Francisco (2002) and Troo.L.S. & Orgi-E's Forklædt Som Voksen (2005). His affiliation with such commercially successful Danish rappers resulted in a solo recording opportunity of his own with the ArtPeople label. Jooks made his commercial debut on the label in 2008 with the single "Træk Vejret." A year later he released the follow-up single "Hun Vil Ha' en Rapper," which topped the Danish singles chart and set the stage for his solo album debut, Privilegeret (2009). ~ Jason Birchmeier
