About Joss Stone

Since emerging in the early 2000s with a fresh take on classic soul music, English singer Joss Stone has sold more than 13 million records worldwide. • Stone grew up in Devon, England, listening to vintage soul artists like Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield. • At 13, she won the TV talent show Star for a Night by performing Aretha’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and the Donna Summer classic “On the Radio.” • She signed a record deal with S-Curve Records in 2002 and released her debut album, The Soul Sessions, the following year. Featuring covers of soul classics, the album went Top 5 in the UK, earning triple-platinum certification. • Her 2004 sophomore album, Mind Body & Soul, reached No. 1 in the UK and spawned the Top 10 hit “You Had Me.” In the US, the album peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum. • Produced by retro-soul godhead Raphael Sadadiq, Stone’s third album, 2007’s Introducing Joss Stone, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. • Her fourth album, 2009’s Colour Me Free, features superstar guests like rapper Nas, guitarist Jeff Beck, and saxophonist David Sanborne. • In 2011, she joined with Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley, and Indian composer A. R. Rahman to form the supergroup SuperHeavy. They released an album together that September. • After parting with her longtime label EMI, Stone formed Stone’d Records and released three ’10s albums: LP1 (2011), The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 (2012), and the reggae-tinged Water for Your Soul (2015).
