Into Colour

For her third album, British singer/songwriter Rumer continues the early-‘70s easy-listening vibe of her previous work. The textures are still as soothing as those of The Carpenters, with a wonderful disco nod (“Dangerous”) at the start. 2012’s Boys Don’t Cry worked over vintage covers. This time, Rumer and her boyfriend/producer Rob Shirakbari, whose client list includes Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick, composed their own set of poignant numbers, such as “You Just Don’t Know People,” “Baby Come to Bed,” and “Butterfly.” The last of those delves into the sadness of her miscarriage and is quickly followed up with “I Am Blessed,” should anyone think she’s looking for pity.
