Keeping Short Accounts with Rachel Leininger

Family life, even in chaos and mess, is the first society we’re part of, and where we learn how to interact with others. Raising tiny humans, and forming them into good people, is the most important work we’ll ever do. Rachel Leininger is in the thick of that work, with 4 kids, first grade down to toddler, and has learned (and shares today) how keeping short accounts - forgiving quickly and loving without reservation - is the only way to survive and thrive in the every day.

Like A Mother Rewind: Forming Principles with Integrity with Sharon McMahon of @SharonSaysSo

Join us for Like A Mother Rewind, where Katie shares one of her favorite episodes. Dive into this rebroadcast with guest Sharon McMahon!

As Sharon McMahon became painfully aware of how dramatically uninformed people were about basic principles of civics and government, she took to Instagram and began sharing facts. And it went viral. She became a sensation, and her friendly, approachable, informative style of sharing news, information, and holding space for hard conversations has garnered over 4 million followers on Instagram, launched an incredible podcast, and has made her “America’s government teacher.” And she’s done all that, with integrity and firmly planted in a desire to share truthfully, as a mother.

Illuminating the mom world

When my SIL sent me this podcast I thought I’d give it a try. One episode and I’m hooked. Katie is an excellent host who balances holding space with her guests and bringing her own motherhood journey to the table. She’s also interviewing all the people I want to hear more from on the topics I’m most interested in- her pulse is on the money.

Great guests

I’ve really enjoyed this show but in the past few episodes have come away somewhat disheartened instead of uplifted. It feels like it is a lot of saying motherhood is hard and a struggle and I get that part but it just feels like in recent episodes it has reached a crescendo. I know the host is at the stage where the first two feel somewhat overwhelming but please stop with the trend of complaining about how hard motherhood is. It feels like she is trying to pull each guest into the negative parts too. I know she is trying to show the struggles mom’s face today with work, busy lives, having to “do it all” but it is disheartening to hear from a catholic podcast(to me) the constant hardship of being a mother as the big focus.
