Ep 126: Knit Gnomes (with Sarah Schira)

We dive into the topic of gnomes and why knitting them are so satisfying with our special guest, designer and podcast host of Imagined Landscapes: Sarah Schira! Katie and Jim talk with Sarah about how knitting entered her life during a much-needed time and how gnomes found their way into being her most beloved subject matter.

Sarah shares a story about her interaction with what might have been a real-live gnome, and Jim bonds with our guest over their mutual love of gnomes and how Jim found a book on the topic that influenced him forever.

Sarah reflect on how gnomes are a perfect project to learn and improve on knitting skills because they can be more easily seen as play instead of work. This is a wonderfully inspiring episode on how knitting and everything we do can carry intention!

Find out more about our amazing guest Sarah Schira below.

    Ep 125: Bewitching Bobbles

This week on "Knit A Spell", the focus is on bewitching bobbles and their magical uses in knitting. Katie's special guest, Sasha Ogden, a fiber artist and owner of Skein Shop, joins her for an insightful conversation on infusing magical intent into knitting projects.

Sasha shares her journey into fiber arts and magical practices, highlighting the profound connection between crafting and magic. They discuss the simplicity and power of incorporating magical elements into everyday activities, emphasizing the transformative nature of knitting.

Exploring the concept of bobbles, they delve into various types and their potential magical correspondences. From numerology to emotional processing, each type of bobble offers unique opportunities for intention-setting and magical symbolism.

Additionally, they explore alternative uses of bobbles, such as creating coded messages or representing celestial bodies like constellations. Through creative expression and intention, bobbles become more than just decorative elements in knitting; they become potent symbols of magic and personal empowerment.

Ep 121: Casting On With Magic

Ep 121: Casting On With Magic

This week Katie and Jim delve into the parallels between casting on a knitting project and casting a spell. They discuss the significance of release and intention in both activities, comparing casting on stitches in knitting to creating a magical circle in spellcasting.

Throughout the episode, they explore various knitting cast on methods, including the knitted cast on, cable cast on, long tail cast on, i-cord cast on, picot cast on, and provisional cast on. For each method, they discuss its practical uses in knitting and associated magical correspondences.

They also discuss the importance of raising and releasing energy in both knitting and magic, emphasizing visualization and intention in the creative process. The episode concludes with a reference guide for listeners to download, enabling them to apply the discussed magical correspondences to their knitting projects.

Enjoy this intriguing exploration of how crafting and magic intersect, demonstrating how knitting techniques can be infused with intention and symbolism akin to spellcasting.
