Each week we bring stories of people once thought capable of love, but who turned into the worst kind of monster.....targeting, grooming, coercing, blackmailing, isolating and physically abusing their male partner. It is estimated that 4 out of 10 men are abused by a domestic partner, and this constitutes only 10% of reported cases. The stereotype that men are abusers and women are victims is false and dangerous. Abused men are alarmingly underserved and resources for help are minimal. Men are often disbelieved or humiliated if they attempt to report their abuse and feel completely isolated and alone in their terror. Heightened awareness of this struggle is long overdue. One in every two men have experienced coercive control by an intimate partner. Season two follows my brother, Mark Blaine, not his real name, and the relentless abuse, coercion, blackmail, fraud, denigration, loss of basic human rights, and so much more that he suffered at the hands of his wife. He is the reason we do this podcast, telling the story from the intimate perspective of words exchanged between the couple via e-mail. We hope to leave a legacy of how hard he tried, for years, to please his wife and hold his family together without success. His final act was carried out in such a way, he could not fail. This one’s for you baby brother, so everyone who knows you will know exactly what she did.

    Men Specifically

    Men Specifically

We have talked previously about the need for services catering to male victims and how those services need to be different. Men and women are not the same animal. Today we want to talk about that a little more in depth. How do men specifically, experience, deal and refer to domestic partner abuse?

    Jason Corbett

    The murder of Jason Corbett
Prosecutors say it was OVERkill, not just murder…as there was blunt force trauma even after death. Molly Corbett and her father Tom Martens say it was self-defense. Was Molly controlling Jason or was Jason abusive? There’s no question he was murdered, but without any evidence, claims of abuse call for reading between the lines.

Amazing podcast!

Such an amazing podcast, it was recommended to me by one my friends, Mark Blaine was one of their parents boss. I would definitely recommend it to any true crime podcast listeners. So many podcasts are about abusive men, but rarely do we hear it the other way around. This podcast really gives deep insight into what coercive control looks like and why it should be illegal.

Thank you for raising awareness

Mr. B was my principal back in the day and I always remember him bringing warmth and light to the room. He always wore silly patterned ties and seemed to care about each and every student. I am so heartbroken to hear about the abuse he had to endure before his death. I hope this podcast raises awareness for men who have been emotionally abused and manipulated by their spouses and prevents more people from suffering Mr. B’s fate. Thank you so much for making this.

Mr. B was wonderful

I grew up as a student with Mr. B as my principal. My heart is so broken to hear the news of his situation. My heart goes out to his kids and his family (NOT NANCY). He was always a wonderful and sweet person. I used to always give him hugs at school. I remember calling him Mr. Turtle Neck because he loved to wear those types of sweaters. He will be truly missed and touched many students hearts, including my own. He was always so patient and calm with every kid at school even when anyone would get sent to the office, he never raised his voice and was always so understanding. It hurts to know that he was so misunderstood by his own wife, the one who should have loved him the most. I hope he rests in peace and I hope his family, the ones who loved and cared for him, continue to heal and carry his memory on. Nobody deserves to be treated that way, especially a man like Mr. B, who always seemed to be so collected on the surface level. I wish I knew he was hurting and that I reached out to thank him for his kindness growing up, as it was not easy for me. I hope to be as sweet as he was and spread the same kindness that he did. Thank you for spreading your message about him. Nobody ever knows what people are really going through and I hope you don’t beat yourself up over it. I believe he just didn’t want anyone to hurt how he was hurting. It really shows how pure and genuine he was. He had so much love to give even to the one who did not deserve his time. May he rest in peace.
