Sexuality With a Philosophical Lens
My guest found that her college students had very little understanding of their own bodies and how to navigate sex in a healthy way. Professor Gwendolyn Dolske Ph.D. teaches Philosophy at Cal Poly Pomona. One of her classes, Current Debates in Sexuality, gives her a unique perspective on what young adults are asking about when it comes to sex and relationships. We discuss topics such as consent, current dating culture, and the high alert status women must negotiate to feel safe in the world.

Cindy Scharkey is the new and improved Carrie Bradshaw
I recently started to rewatch Sex and City. This is my personal opinion: It was a MA show that attempted to address sexuality from a woman’s point of view and convey that women too sought out sex for pleasure and were worthy of pleasure. While it radicalized our society, there was a crucial thing absent from the show that did not permit women to truly embrace that pleasure was “ok”: true emotional depth. From my perspective, Cindy is the new Carrie because she explore pretty much everything once portrayed in the show. However, Permission for Pleasure is a classier and more intellectual approach to these topics. Her podcast, IG post and news letter have the validation and emotional depth that women need to embrace that pleasure is good and that pleasure is DEFINITELY not bad! Her show removes the stigma/label of “normal” and explores everything with the notion that it could or could not apply to her audience. And for me the biggest difference and major improvement is that I imagine many of us women felt guilt watching a show like Sex and the City but listening to Cindy will actually help you shed all those extra pounds of shame and guilt that are hindering your sexual life! Listen to her podcast and read her newsletter and post with the curiosity you had if you ever watched a show like Sex and the City or with an open mind to see, feel and hear that Cindy is advocating for women and our need to be liberated for a society that attempts to controlled or eradicate the notion that it is healthy for women to seek pleasure and be sexual people!
The sister you never had…
Listening to Cindy is like have that wiser, big sister you never had— the one who knows more about sex than you do… the one who cheers you to go out and get the pleasure and healthy relationship that you deserve. She’s encouraging, thoughtful and seriously knowledgable… all while being loving and encouraging and funny too. I highly recommend!!!
Perfect Title
Literally an invitation and push to get to the root of resistance to pleasure for me. Coming from purity culture and religious conservatism I repressed sexuality. Grateful for Cindy’s presence not only in the podcasts but the way she shows up in the world to invite us to pleasure! Go ‘head Cindy!!!!
