EP#7 - Additive materials in 3D printing and how big is the sun?

Mark, Aphrodite and Adam get together once more to discuss the news this month in materials science, which this time includes additive materials in 3D printed rocket nozzles for use in space travel. Mark continues to be the one who doesn’t understand what’s being said, Adam continues to not get Mark’s humour and Aphrodite, as always, provides the answers. Lack of scientific depth

I was hoping this podcast would, as advertised in the intro, combine science and engineering to discuss various materials. Instead, it feels like a marketing ploy to get their name out there. I’ve listened to 3-4 episodes, and none of them contain any real science- only examples of how some materials are used. There is no discussion of the chemistry of the materials, no mention of why or how they do what they do, no specifications or numbers on how the materials work. I was excited to learn about Kapton in a recent episode, but was disappointed to listen to buzzwords like “green material” and multiple mentions of nasa without going into the exact applications. Too many soft descriptors and not enough science to advertise as it does.
