In this episode, I’m joined by Nolan Bauerle, new host of Bitcoin Magazine Live. Our main topics of discussion are Jerome Powell and his Brookings Institute speech, and the growing conflict in Turkey. I had prepared some charts (you can see them in the linked slide deck above), but was not able to get to them due to time constraints. It’s a wide ranging discussion about societal signaling, monetary policy and even demographics.

In this episode, CK and I cover our reactions to the FTX debacle, the latest CPI numbers out of the US, the new CBDC pilot by the Federal Reserve and banks, and touch on the G20 meeting in Bali. We run out of time at the end and don’t cover it as well as I’d like to, but perhaps I’ll remedy it with a supplemental episode before next week.

Great Bird’s-Eye View

I find a macro-economic and macro-historical view to be the most relevant to understanding bitcoin in the here and now, and for any prognostications of it. As such, this podcast fills that role very well. I am glad to have found it because I had to unsubscribe from the Bitcoin Magazine podcast, which has important content but too many peripheral comments and tangents that make the podcast twice the length that it needs to be. I am one of the few who still work for a living in this country, and I don’t have endless time for endless podcasts. Tighten this one up just a little bit as well fellas, and keep up the good work!

Almost great

Ansel does a great job finding weekly macro news to present. There aren’t many macro podcasts out there that are trying to figure out what’s going on behind the curtain, but this is one of them.

The problem is CK, Ansel’s partner. He does no homework throughout the week so when Ansel tries to bring him into the discussion he never has anything of value to add. Instead, he just side steps Ansel’s request for a back and forth and makes baseless claims about how bitcoin is the future. It drags down the higher level conversation that should be taking place. CK should just be on for the first 5 minutes to update what’s going on with bitcoin events/news.

Ansel does a great job of presenting a narrative to the news he finds, but could really use a partner that could challenge him on his ideas so they could flesh out better what’s happening.

Conclusion- good place to get weekly fed/macro news, Ansel can’t put the whole show on his back, he needs a counterpart that is as up to date as he is.

Great show, solid breakdowns

This show kills it in understanding market movements. Great show but I wish they would add podcasting 2.0 tags so people can give value for value.
