S03E06 - What does the future hold?

For the final episode in this season’s Check-in, Mattijs travels to the Passenger Terminal Expo in Amsterdam to talk to two representatives of ACI World, Dimitri Coll and Antoine Rostworowski. With them, Mattijs reviews what he found out while making the series, discusses the challenges ahead and talks about what the future may bring.
This podcast covers such questions as, what are the best ways to generate stakeholder collaboration for end-to-end baggage logistics, and who should take the lead? And how will advanced technologies shape the future of airport operations and the passenger experience? We also hear a final word from Vanderlande’s Mark Lakerveld on his hopes for the future.

S03E05 - Making baggage logistics more sustainable

S03E05 - Making baggage logistics more sustainable

In this episode of Check-in, Mark Lakerveld, David Duque Lozano and Fieke de Haan provide insights on sustainability and the baggage logistics industry. Did you know that a baggage handling system (BHS) can use up to 40% of an airport’s energy requirements? The BHS is at the very core of airport operations and also has an impact on use of space, assets and people’s working conditions. Therefore, any efforts to improve an airport’s green credentials must look at making baggage operations more sustainable.
At the end of this episode, we also get a sneak preview into the views of airports’ industry body ACI World.

S03E03 – Enabling end-to-end baggage logistics using a “pull approach”

S03E03 – Enabling end-to-end baggage logistics using a “pull approach”

To ensure a working system of end-to-end baggage logistics, a so-called “pull approach” is essential. In this third episode of our Check-in series, Gijs Bartelet and Frans Wijnheijmer reveal all about this system and its specific enablers.
We learn that moving from the (more traditional) push to a pull approach can help airports to optimise their baggage handling processes, both in terms of labour requirements and use of space. In addition, the pull concept is more predictable, which means it’s easier to automate.

S03E02 - Digitalisation and its enablers

S03E02 - Digitalisation and its enablers

In this episode of Check-in, Mattijs takes a look at what digitalisation means for the baggage handling industry, what is needed for successful digitalisation and what opportunities it will bring to the sector. Jessica van Kruisbergen, Darren Durham and Siamak Mohamaddian talk about the use of data in services, and how it can be exploited to realise greater connectivity.
We hear how the smart use of data and digitalisation will be central to delivering an end-to-end baggage handling process, providing more reliable operations that – in the end – will offer passengers a better experience.
