#099 The Quirks are What Make it Home

#099 The Quirks are What Make it Home

This week, we get personal, sharing tales of home renovations and the histories living within our walls that continue to shape our lives. We'll walk you through the charm of uncovering memories in familiar spaces, from the laughter-filled corners of a childhood home to the serendipitous discovery of an island on a lake. Join us as we reveal how these stories of past homeownership, and the ongoing dance of personalizing our spaces, weave the fabric of our identities and connect us with our listeners' own remodeling adventures.

As we pull on our plaid shirts and laugh at the quirky cultural norms that make each region unique, you'll wonder if you're not alone in eating pizza for breakfast. We'll swap tales of the amusing cultural misunderstandings that arise when moving across the country, and you'll be entertained by our musings on the stereotypes that define the Midwest—yes, including the great 'duck, duck, gray duck' debate. We'll also marvel at the ingenuity of constructing a micro cabin for less than your monthly coffee budget, and invite you to mull over the essentials you'd pack for a life of minimalist living. Whether it's the stories etched in the beams of our homes or the cultural idiosyncrasies that make each place unique, there's a bit of laughter and a lot of heart in this episode's journey.

Ever found yourself shaking your head at the absurdity of some outdated laws? Tune in and join us as we explore the quirks of legislation, where you'll be baffled by the likes of Montana's gender-specific fishing restrictions and Connecticut's bouncing pickles. We'll even sneak in a few chuckles about pickles that could start a legal crusade, proving that the law isn't just about order—it can also be a source of endless amusement.

Our conversation ventures into the picturesque landscapes of Cork County, Ireland, where traditional aesthetics grapple with modern housing needs. We examine the concept of an "Irish cabin" and its role in this delicate balance, offering thoughts on how to preserve the charm of rural living without compromising on practical solutions. And as the strings of Shane Smith and the Saints' latest tunes resonate in the background, we dive into the connection between music, art, and the landscapes that inspire them—a trifecta of creativity.

Finally, we celebrate the thrill of art discovery, sharing tales of vintage finds and the mystery of their creators. We're calling on all artists to leave a breadcrumb trail for posterity, ensuring that their work lives on to be appreciated by future generations. So, whether you're a patron of local businesses, an art aficionado, or just someone with a taste for the unconventional, this episode promises a tapestry of discussions that connect us all. Don't miss catching these stories, no fishing license required.

Enjoy

It is always great to transport to wherever Eric and Kristian are for the week. Makes a fun way to relax and enjoy a heat away from home.

Reminds why I love the Northwoods!!!

Binged listened to episodes 3-6 while driving to our cabin in the Northwoods! While I count my blessings to have grown up on a lake and now have a place in the Northwoods, listening to the Cabincast takes me back to memories of a little girl fishing with cane poles, watching fish while snorkeling, campfires and s’mores, supper clubs, old fashions and now creating memories with my own children. Lake life and the Northwoods are truly Gods beautiful places and Kristin and Erik do a great job of bringing that to life for everyone with their stories and guests! Thank you for sharing your love of The Northwoods and everything it has to offer.

Take me Home Country Roads

I have been following Kristin on her IG page for quite awhile and have dreamed of going to the Northwoods ever since. So I was excited when she announced the Cabin Cast. I’ve loved every episode and while I don’t live in a cabin on a lake or in the woods, when I listen to Erik and Kristin I’m taken to a wonderful place of peace and solitude. Their voices are so easy to listen to. Keep up the great work guys.
