Bridgerton: Race, Casting, and Historical Fantasy

As part of our ongoing series on Bridgerton, Eliza and Jonelle take a deep dive into how Bridgerton portrays (and glosses over) racial and/or cultural difference. Your hosts tread lightly into the difference between American and British representation; color conscious and color blind casting; and why it's weird that anyone thinks people of color didn't exist in early modern England.

Like hanging with friends!

I LOVE this podcast so much. It’s so funny to listen to the hosts walk us through some truly ridiculous films! The hosts have such a easy and friendly rapport, it’s like listening to your smartest and funniest friends dissect a bad movie. The movie selections and the themes are great - Brendan Fraser month?! Yes please! Seriously give it a listen - you’ll be glad you did.

One of my favorite pods!

Love this podcast! Love that the analysis is feminist and academic, but still relatable and funny. The ladies are so smart and sharp, but the best part is that they obviously sincerely like and respect each other and enjoy each other’s company.
This pod always puts me in a great mood! Highly recommend!!

A thoughtful and funny podcast!

I stumbled on this podcast by a happy accident! It's a fantastic listen for anyone who, like me, has had a lifelong love/hate relationship with romcoms.
I really appreciate their smart and scholarly, yet light approach as they take on movies ranging from classics to recent Netflix Christmas movies. Here's hoping they make many more episodes!
